Honoring Dr. Deryl Leaming

Dr. Deryl Leaming originated the Academic Leadership Online Journal for the purpose of giving a state, regional, national, and international voice to scholars working in all fields that academic leadership addresses. Dr. Leaming, Fort Hays State University alumnus, knew that quality research and scholarly activities of professionals in the academic field was advancing the research base of academic leadership and that a professional forum must be initiated in which research and scholarship could be highlighted for the good of the academic profession and those the profession serves.  The Fort Hays State University wishes to express its sincere thanks to Dr. Leaming as he retires from editing the Journal.  We honor him for his achievement and success of the Journal.  Fort Hays State University is privileged to accept his invitation to continue and expand the scope of the Journal through the College of Education and Technology.

The Academic Leadership Journal will continue to add new knowledge, challenge current thinking and inform a larger readership about scholarship and research in academic leadership.  In addition, the Academic Leadership Journal will expand its focus to include paving paths for Leadership Reform that “Re-Imagines” citizenship and leadership in rural communities and school systems that promote future economic fitness.  The Journal will encompass the perspectives of doctorate superintendents in the field who are moving research into practice and continuing the research base through action research initiatives.

Academic Leadership Finds a New Home at
Fort Hays State University

Academic Leadership, the brainchild of Dr. Deryl Leaming, is now housed in the College of Education and Technology at Fort Hays State University .  Dr. Ed Mills, Dean of the College of Education and Technology has placed the Academic Leadership Journal in the Department of Education Administration and Counseling where it will be managed and edited by the education administration faculty.  Quality control of journal submissions will be maintained through the same refereed process as scholars are accustomed.  Dr. Mills emphasizes that the Journal should provide a balanced perspective between research and pedagogy, and application and process.  The 2004-2005 focus of University President, Dr. Ed Hammond, is on Quality and Research.  The Academic Journal provides an excellent vehicle for both of the President’s initiatives.
